Leadership has grown over the last three years to include staff, parents,
and the community at Bester Elementary School. There is an ongoing dialogue
among the stakeholders about teaching and learning.
Year 1: The collaboration with the Coalition began in the fall of 2004,
with active participation beginning at the Spring Forum in 2005. A team
of teachers and administrators attended the forum to learn about the
Coalition and the impact it would have on student achievement. A second
team of individuals including teachers and administrators attended the
Summer Conference in August 2005.
Year 2: The 2005-2006 school year began with a new principal and a
new assistant principal as well as 20 new staff members. Leadership
was shared among the members of the Achievement Team. Staff was educated
on the Coalition through professional development throughout the school
year. A new team of teachers and administrators attended the Summer
Conference in August 2006.
Year 3: A new assistant principal was hired for this school year and
there were other changes in the leadership team as teachers left for
other positions. A focus on student leadership emerged from the intermediate
grades.
