STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Bester Elementary has seen continued growth in the area of student achievement. Bester has met Annual Yearly Progress each of the three years it has been associated with the Coalition.

Year 1: The focus of this year was on instructional practice and discipline by the administrative team. The fruits of this focus were recognized in January of 2006 when Bester Elementary School was identified as National Title I School for closing the gap in the subgroups identified by No Child Left Behind.

Year 2: The restructuring of Bester allowed for the professional development to occur an additional two and half hours per week. Professional development focused on classroom practices and instructional strategies to further student achievement and to continue to close the achievement gaps.
Year 3: The focus this year has been on allowing instructional practices to be exploratory with students and teachers reflecting on the teaching and learning. Students are held accountable to higher order questions and working toward developing and answering and essential question to make world connections.
