The objectives of the PTA are:
-
To promote
the welfare of children and youth in home, school,
community, and place of worship.
-
To raise the
standards of home life.
-
To secure
adequate laws for the care and protection of children and
youth.
-
To bring into
closer relation the home and the school, the parents and
teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of
children and youth.
-
To develop between
educators and the general public such united efforts as well
secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in
physical, mental, social and spiritual educations.
2009-2010 Citizens Advisory Council
The County Board of
Education established a Citizen's School Advisory Council in 1969. The general
purpose of the Council is to promote the highest possible standards of
excellence in the Washington County Schools consistent with sound economic
principles. The Council will work to accomplish its objectives through the
following means:
-
Conducting independent studies of various phases of public
elementary and secondary schools and making appropriate
recommendations to the Board of Education.
-
Providing improved two way communications between the Board of
Education and the citizens of the community.
-
Encouraging greater interest and participation in school affairs
by the citizens.
The
Objectives of the Citizen's Advisory Committees are:
-
To contribute to the public understanding of fundamental
issues in education.
-
To raise the level of understanding of what good schools
are and what good schools can do for the community.
-
To stimulate creative thinking in examining educational
issues.
-
To propose recommended courses of action to meet both
existing and emerging needs of the schools.
-
To identify ways of utilizing all of the community's
resources for development of the best education programs
which the community can offer.
-
To keep the community informed of the needs, purposes,
progress, and problems of the public schools.
-
To receive and investigate complaints of parents and
citizens to make decisions as to whether such complaints
have sufficient merit to be referred to the Advisory
Council and then, if necessary, to the Board of
Education.
-
To prepare written recommendations in a summary report
to the Board of Education which will assist the Board in
shaping educational policy.
