Overview: Lesson Plan for Christmas Around the World
Sing-a-long. I did this lesson with the third grade teachers in
December. They studied the countries, and then we got together and
had a sing-a-long.
Curriculum Connections: 1.1c, 1.2b, 2.1b: Listen to and
perform folk and composed music that is used to celebrate holidays in
various cultures
Technology Standards: I. Access, evaluate, process and
apply information efficiently and effectively. (1, 2, 3 and 4) V.
Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction.
- Daily Posted Objective(s):
- TSW listen and sing Christmas songs from Around the World.
- TSW identify themes used in the music and find similarities
and differences.
- TSW describe music that illustrates fast/slow, loud/soft
(quiet), long/short, high/ low.

- Materials:
Assessment/Evaluation: Students participation in
sing-a-long. Classroom teacher usually follows up with the
evaluation.
- Time Frame: One or two 50 minute sessions.

- Activities or Procedure:
- 1. Discuss Holidays Around the World and have students tell
you what they know about various holidays and what songs they
already know.
- 2. Start with Germany. (sing O Tannenbaum and Stille
Nacht)
- 3. Spain (sing Feliz Navidad and Fum Fum Fum, Boar's Head
Carol)
- 4. England (sing Twelve Days of Christmas, Christmas is
Coming, Cornish Wassail)
- 5. France (sing Pat-a-Pan)
- 6. Sweden (Christmas is Here Again)
